WAILEA BEACH SUNSET, MAUI
The day after we landed in Hawaii, hurricane Hector was just popping up in the news, as it headed for the islands of Hawaii. We all decided to keep our eye on the storm’s movement just to be safe, but in the meantime we were determined to still enjoy our trip. The winds picked up on and off throughout the week, with the highest winds on our last night in Maui (which are the photos you see here). Thankfully, the hurricane never made the turn toward the islands and we didn’t have to make an unplanned mad dash to the airport.
Chris and I had stayed at Wailea Beach Resort last February when we went to Maui for our birthdays and we absolutely loved it. The coastline here is just gorgeous with black lava rock and bright vibrant greens crawling and sprawling every which way across it. We wanted to show my dad and sister the resort since we loved it so much earlier this year, so we decided to grab lunch there on our last day in Maui and give them a tour of the grounds. The hurricane may have steered clear of us all week, but the residual winds from just being on the outskirts of it were surprisingly strong.
After a late lunch by the pool, we parted ways with my family who headed back to Lahaina. Chris and I opted to stick around Wailea to watch the sunset and have a date night just the two of us. Unfortunately, I left my change of clothes for dinner in my sister’s car and didn’t realize it until they were already back at their hotel. Chris suggested we check out some local boutiques and I’m so glad we did! We found this cute matching top and skirt set, and it ended up being perfect for these sunset photos. I’ve already worn it at least three more times since we’ve been home… it’s safe to say this was a good buy. Now that Fall is just around the corner, I plan on pairing the skirt with a white sweater and some cute heels or booties!
This was the prettiest sunset of our whole trip. The evening started out pretty cloudy, which was really nice for Chris and I as we walked up and down the coastline. With all of that cloud coverage, we didn’t even break a sweat even though we probably walked a few miles. Once the sun began to truly set, the clouds picked up all the soft cotton candy colors painted across the sky. We were mesmerized at the changing colors as we walked along the beach. Purple, peach, and light pink clouds just over the horizon faded into the bright blue sky behind us. Just when we thought we had seen the best of it, the sky quickly turned deep orange and purple. It was pretty much two completely different, equally beautiful sunsets in one! The photos you see here are of the first half of the sunset. I’ll add the deeper, vibrant photos to my recap of Maui – coming soon. 🙂
