Hawaii Catamaran Cruise : Na Pali Coast
I am so glad we booked the Na Pali Coast Catamaran tour when we were in Kauai, because it was quite possibly my favorite activity of the whole trip! I was apprehensive at first, because the one we chose was such a large boat, and I was hoping for more of a small ‘adventure’ experience in a smaller sailboat. As soon as we took off from the harbor, I was so happy we chose the one we did. This catamaran had a huge completely covered lower deck, where we could take cover when the wakes overtook the outside seating. Best of all, there was a full normal bathroom onboard, which came in handy on a four hour long cruise. While we were sailing, we saw a small boat overfilled with people, all wearing bulky lifejackets and everyone looked miserable. Maybe that would be fun for a short trip, but for the Na Pali Coast, you’ll want to be able to stretch your legs, use the restroom, walk around, and spread out whenever and wherever you want.
The crew of Captain Andy’s Boat Tour was absolutely amazing. They were so upbeat, genuinely friendly, and you could tell they really loved their jobs. My favorite part of the whole cruise was seeing tons of dolphins swim along side us. The spinner dolphins were really playful-jumping in and out of the water. We even saw a little pod with baby dolphins! We saw a few whales too, but because of time we couldn’t stop and linger too long. Chris and I ended up seeing a few whales later in the trip, so it all worked out.
I was pleasantly surprised by the food they offered on the cruise. When we first boarded the boat, they had breakfast quiches and fruit, which was perfect for me since I didn’t want anything too heavy in case I ended up getting sea sick. Chris and I opted to skip dramamine or the sea sick bracelets since we have both been at sea and felt fine prior to this trip. However, when we were checking in that morning for our cruise, we saw some ginger gum next to the cash register and decided to grab some as a last resort. I’m glad we did, because when the waves started getting really choppy, and we hadn’t eaten lunch yet my stomach was started to feel a little uneasy. A few bites of the ginger gum and we both felt back to normal. Chris actually loved the flavor of the gum so much that he finished the whole pack throughout our Hawaii trip- just because lol.
The morning started off very gloomy, but with the gloom came the prettiest clouds! Throughout the 4 hour Catamaran ride the weather kept shifting back and forth. At times the sun was shining bright, then it would turn gloomy, then bright and shiny, then gloomy again. As the sun dipped up and down behind the clouds, it was so cool to see the water change from soft blue, to deep blue, to bright teal, and back to a deep aqua color once we moved further along the Na Pali Coast.
The Na Pali Coast was truly beautiful, pictures don’t even do it justice! The caves, the secret beaches scattered along the coast were so pretty, I’d love to do the whole tour again some day!
