How is it almost May already?! I say it every year, but these months are flying by.
For the first time in a long time, Chris and I don’t have any huge travel trips planned, and it’s so strange for us! We love planning out our trips, shopping for hotel deals, making trip itineraries (even though we usually end up winging it when we’re there lol). My neighbor, Jessie, gets the Travel and Leisure magazine every month at her work, and every now and again she’ll bring me over a stack of them to binge read. Every time I flip through them I get total travel fever! Ok, travel fever kind of sounds like a disease you get while traveling….travel bug? travel itch? Ah, those sound even worse! lol I’m eager to travel, ok? You get it. Good, moving on 🙂
The problem we always run into is whether we should re-visit places we already know we love or if we should try out new cities and countries. Chris doesn’t have as much vacation time at his current job so we have to be extra purposeful when planning out our trips this year. The great news is we live in California, so there are potential weekend trips scattered all around us. Any given weekend we can pack up our car and drive a few hours for a mini-vacay that doesn’t require a long flight or too much planning. Even though we actually really do love the planning part!
Last weekend we went to Malibu to catch a glimpse of the yellow wild flowers that are in bloom each spring. Every year, I plan on going and every year I end up missing it. This year I wrote it in my planner months ahead of time, so there was little chance I would forget about them (I use this planner HERE). It was such a gorgeous day. The sun was shining, there was a light breeze to keep us cool as we explored, and we saw SO much wildlife! My favorite part was seeing these two whales in the photo below!
It was a mother and her baby hanging out in the shallow water, and they were so playful. Of course the second I pull out my camera they go under water and barely come back up again. So typical right? When we first saw them, they were in the aqua clear water and you could see them so clearly straight through the water. As they started swimming back out to sea, there were a few seals jumping in and out of the water too. Earlier that morning we saw a pod of dolphins too! It was possibly one of my favorite days in Malibu to date!
I originally bought this white ruffled top for our recent trip to Hawaii. The whole trip, I was saving it to wear for something really special, but then all of the sudden it was the end of the trip and I had totally forgotten to wear it at all! Oh well, these flower fields will do just fine. 😀 I love all things ruffles, bows, and pleats- pretty much anything with some feminine girly details and I’m sold!
The skirt I’m wearing is actually part of a two-piece set that came with a matching crop top. I bought it for our Hawaii trip too and absolutely loved wearing the set together, or mixed and matched with other pieces like I did here. I’ll wear florals all year round, but I especially love to wear them in spring time. I’ve got my eye on that Lovers and Friends skirt you see linked below. Ruffles and florals- yes please!
Skirt: Showpo (sold out, but buy similar print dress HERE)
Shoes: Ecco (ON SALE! Buy them HERE)
(SO comfy, great for walking long distances but still cute!)
Necklace: Bloomingdale’s (sold out, but shop similar below!)
Where are your favorite places to vacation in California?
Northern California, Southern California, we are down for it all! Let me know in the comments if you’ve been anywhere cool or if you have a California destinations that are on your travel bucket list. We’re hoping to bring the puppies with us wherever we go too. We did a Big Sur road trip with Bella a few years back and it was so fun having her with us the whole weekend. She did so well in the car- mostly slept the whole way but loved looking out the window too.
Rosie is a mellowed out version of Bella, so I’m sure she’ll do great!
